Everyone should see the movie Cereal Killers. Basically it is a new way, which is a very old way, of eating. It stands in the face of the food pyramid, high carbohydrate, sugar and low fat diets. A 41 year old man decides to experiment on himself by drastically changing his diet to a high fat, high protein, recommended vegetables and fruits, and no sugar or carbohydrates plan. He stays on the diet for 28 days, while being tracked by doctors, who run tests like blood work , body fat percentages and resting metabolic rate. The results will surprise you! It is a must watch!
Spring is upon us and with it comes the runny nose, itchy eyes, sneezing, congestion, etc. There are many Standard Process products that can help you through these seasonal changes. Feel free to call about our whole food supplements and how they can help you through the allergy season.
Hungry For Change is a must see documentary. Several nutritionists in the field of whole food nutrition were interviewed, and the information given will astound you. It did me! The reason being, they emphasized the fact that we are taking in non-food substances and not real, nutritious food. They also identify the chemicals that are in our food and the damage they are causing.
One of my favorite points was the comparison of white sugar and white flower to cocaine. All three of these in their natural state would do us no harm. The coca leaf can be, and is used for tea. High fructose corn syrup is from corn , and flower from wheat. But through the process of extracting, whitening, concentrating and purifying these substances, they become toxic to the body and create imbalances. I recommend you watch this as soon as possible! It will change the way you look at what you are taking into your body! A couple of weeks ago, you may have heard a Florida mother talking about her shock at receiving a letter stating that her daughter was obese. The health screening is mandating by Florida law and is based on BMI calculations for obesity. Her daughter is 11 years old and very healthy. So how did such a thing happen?
This is a very simplistic measure. When using this as a measurement for obesity, you must consider each individual. In the case of this girl, the BMI is the worst measure possible. Anyone could look at her and tell she is far from obese. She is a healthy, active, normal girl. BMI is basically your weight divided by your height. In athletes, the BMI will show them to be obese. Why? because muscle is more dense and weighs more than fat. You can take an athlete that weighs 200 and is 5'10", and someone who is overweight, doesn't exercise and is 200 and 5'10", and they will both be obese by the BMI measurement. That's why BMI must be incorporated into a common sense health screening and cannot be allowed to stand alone. If insurance companies begin to use this as a standard measurement, we will be categorizing a certain percentage of the population as obese who are far from it. There are much more accurate tests and measurements to evaluate the percentage of body fat, but they cannot be done as quickly, or some cases, in an office setting. The hydrostatic body fat testing is the most accurate way to measure lean tissue and fat tissue, but it also requires the person to be fully submerged in a tank of water. Bottom line, if you know you are overweight, the BMI is an indicator of your health. No more no less. It should never stand alone as a test for the overall health of an individual. Every organ, tissue and cell has a nerve supply. The brain sends messages out to every part of our bodies and also receives feedback from every part. This allows the body to function properly in every aspect. If there is an organism intruding on the body, messages are sent to the brain and the signals are sent to the white bloods cells to attack. In order to stand, walk, balance, read, digest food, keep the heart beating, lungs breathing, we need the nervous system. There is not a function that goes on in the body without the nervous system being involved. We as Chiropractors know that by realigning the spine, we remove interferences that may speed up or slow down the messages that get through from the brain to the spinal cord, to all parts of the body and back again. If there is a subluxation ( a misalignment of a vertebra from the one above and/or below) present, it can change the message as it passes from the spinal cord to the body. This can change the organs, tissues and cells that are supplied by that nerve. For instance, if the nerve that supplies the heart was interfered with due to a subluxation, your heart may not get the proper message to function properly. Does that mean that you would have a heart attack from this misalignment? Not necessarily, but if you have heart issues, you definitely want the nerve supply to your heart to be as clear and as close to one hundred percent function as possible. And by all means, if you are having a heart attack, of course, you would go to the emergency room, not your chiropractor's office! But it would also be a great idea to see your chiropractor after you recover from you heart attack. Removing any interference would help in the healing process. And that's what Chiropractors are in the business of doing; assisting you in healing, enhancing the healing process with many different natural, non invasive techniques, and helping you stay healthy. We empower our patients to live a healthier, happier, fulfilled life. I have struggled with allergies most of my life. Sinus infections were a common illness growing up. I tried everything under the sun to relieve my sneezing, coughing, post nasal drip, rhinitis, sinus infection issues. It was finally to the point where it was causing a chronic cough and sinus infections that led to asthma and bronchitis. I was sick at least three times a year, for months at a time. The last straw was when I had fluid on my lungs that I could not get rid of. I went to my primary care doctor and had to take Prednezone to get rid of the fluid. At that moment, I vowed to find something that would control the allergies, so that I would never have to take steroids again. My journey was frustrating and disappointing at times. I tried herbs, supplements and finally found a combination of homeopathic remedies and whole food nutrition that helped control all of the symptoms I was suffering from. After researching the causes and the body's responses to allergens, I came up with a combination that has rid me of sneezing, coughing, sinus infections, and bronchitis. I am completely symptom free! I occasionally have to take both the homeopathics and the whole food supplements to keep the symptoms in check, but it's not as severe or as often as it used to be. I have not had a sinus infection for over a year now, and have found that my sense of smell is better. My hearing has also improved since I don't have the drainage, congestion, and fluid in my ears! It is possible to support your body's healing ability. I am living proof, as are my patients. If you are interested in finding out about products that will support your body's healing ability, I am available to answer questions and help you heal! Are you interested in losing weight? Want to start right now? Then stop drinking sodas and sugary drinks, including juices. Juices are concentrated, so they have a lot of fructose in them. You can have an occasional juice, just cut it down to one 12ounce juice every other day. It's better to eat the fruit than drink it. You get all the nutrients, fiber and synergistic value in a fruit.
Stevia is a natural plant based sweetener that can be used instead of sugar. It is less calories, and better for you than the artificial sweeteners. So if you need to add sweetener, it's the healthier choice. Try substituting green tea, herbal teas, and water. It will take some getting used to, but you will be surprised as to how many empty calories there are in sugary drinks. You don't need them, and they are not healthy. And just by removing and substituting this one item from your daily routine, you will begin to lose a few pounds! People take antacids because they have an upset stomach, acid reflux and heart burn. The theory behind this is that the stomach is too acidic, so you need an antacid to calm the acid production-to make the stomach more alkaline. In most people, it's just the opposite. In most cases, there's not enough acid to break down the food, so it is the rancid food coming back up. Antacids help with the rancid food, but not digestion of the food itself. In order to break down food, you need an acidic environment in the stomach.
And what about Calcium in your antacid? Well you also need and acidic environment in your stomach to break down and absorb minerals such as Calcium. So if you take an antacid that makes the stomach alkaline, you can't absorb the calcium. Also, what if you're on a stronger antacid that you take daily? Are you absorbing any calcium? Is it any wonder that taking these may increase the risk of bone fractures by 30 percent? Do you know anyone with osteoporosis? Are they also taking prescribed antacids? Not a good combination. A well known remedy for this issue is organic apple cider vinegar. You can pick it up at any whole foods store. Taking at least one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with meals, will increase the acidity in the stomach, and allow the food to break down easier. If this improves your digestion, you don't have enough acid, if causes burning, you may be the rare case that does have too much acid. Many people need more that 1 tablespoon, so you will have to experiment. A suggestion is to try 1, if there is no change, try 2, and so on until you get to the point where you can feel a little burning. Then back off one tablespoon. So if you get burning at 5 tablespoons, take 4 with each meal. You can mix with water, use as a salad dressing, or any way you can think to take it. |
